It might seem like it's been a long time since you've seen a new copy of Bakersfield Life magazine, and there's a reason for that – it actually has been a long time. For the first time in the nearly two-and-a-half year history of Bakersfield Life, we have a new publish date, which also means that this issue is being published two weeks later than we have in the past.
Don't despair. We're back now and you'll be seeing us each month as usual from now, but you'll be seeing us on a different date. We've moved from our old publication date – the somewhat random and arbitrary third Saturday of the month – to a more solid distribution date on on the final Saturday of every month. While the change might not seem like much to you now, just wait. It's going to make a huge difference.
Take our calendar of events in the front of the magazine, for example. Previously, we had events listed for the end of one month and throughout the next, but truth be told, we would actually miss some events that didn't begin publicizing until after our publication date. By changing to the last Saturday of each month, we'll be able to bring you a more timely events schedule, not to mention the great new look that goes along with it.
I think the entire premise of the change to the end of the month wraps around the idea of simply being more timely with the information that we bring to you. In previous years, we wouldn't have been able to touch on Valentine's Day because we would be coming out a couple of days after Feb. 14. This year, romantic roses grace the cover.
We're also going to be able to feature everything from Mother's Day to the Paso Robles Wine Harvest and every possible event and holiday in between if we feel that they are things that will be of interest to you. In the end, it's about you, the reader, being able to pick up an issue of Bakersfield Life and know immediately that it is full of timely, up-to-date information that wouldn't – and shouldn't – run at any other time of the year.
And that's just one piece of the ever-changing Bakersfield Life puzzle that continues to grow and improve. Hopefully you've noticed that we are no longer saddle stitched (with staples holding the magazine together in the middle) and instead are perfect bound, which brings a bit more elegance and prestige to the magazine.
We're also introducing Vows by Bakersfield Life this month, which is part of the reason why we needed to adjust to perfect binding. Thing of the 28-page special insert this month as a magazine within a magazine, and it is perfect for those preparing for their wedding or anyone who wants to learn more about wedding preparation. Be sure to look in future months for more special sections that we are already preparing, like our Health and Wellness next month and Living Green after that.
So sorry we've been away so long and thanks for inviting us back into your homes. We won't leave you along that long again. Promise.
