JOIN IN THE FIGHT
AGAINST CANCER AT THE
5th ANNUAL BARON’S BALL
What: This year marks the Firth Annual Baron’s Ball – “Rolling Down the River of Hope” to benefit the American Cancer Society. Mayor Harvey Hall will serve as the Honorary Chair of this premier gala event that features gourmet Southern cuisine, entertainment by “The Beagles” and dancing. In addition, the event includes live and silent auctions with over 300 incredible items to bid on donated by businesses throughout Kern County. A few of the live auction items include a pool donated by W.W. Harper Pools, a Solar energy system with up graded energy efficient air-conditioning unit donated by Bland Solar and Air, and a Custom 2008 Chevrolet Siverado Pickup donated by Three Way Automotive Group.
Various activities are planned throughout the night for attendees including live pig races, a wine toss, the Wheel of Fortune and other games of skill and chance. In addition, an opportunity drawing will be held for a Diamond Tennis Bracelet, donated by Houston Jewelers. Honorariums will be available to honor loved ones lost or those winning the battle.
The Baron’s Ball is an opportunity to partner with the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer and to raise money for much needed research, education, advocacy, and free patient programs and services in the community. This event is presented by Three Way Automotive Group and sponsored in part by W.W. Harper Pools, Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center and San Joaquin Community Hospital.
Why: In 2007, approximately 133,225 Californians will be diagnosed as having cancer. This is equivalent to more than 16 new cases every hour of every day. About 54,300 people will die of this disease – about 150 people a day. In Kern County there is an expected 2,400 new cancer diagnosis and 1,065 deaths. The American Cancer Society believes that early diagnosis saves lives by identifying cancers when they are most curable. Following the American Cancer Society Cancer Detection Guidelines and encouraging others to do so can save your life or the lives or people you love.
