This isn’t just a hotel with an elegant restaurant or a state-of-the-art spa; The Dolphin Bay Hotel is a lifestyle of its own.The newest hotel on Shell Beach Road in Pismo Beach, The Dolphin Bay Hotel and Residences is a modern design of simple elegance. If the front entrance and lobby don’t take your breath away, your one or two bedroom suite should do the trick. Many properties up and down the coast boast as being your “home away from home,” but Dolphin Bay scores the winning prize in comfort and accommodation.
Thrill and excitement radiate from Dolphin Bay General Manager, Shaw McPherson when speaking of the hotel’s amenities and desire to go the extra mile for their guests. A native of Alabama, McPherson has worked in Los Angeles and San Francisco and says it wasn’t until he moved to the central coast to establish Dolphin Bay, that he truly felt comfortable and at home.
“When you travel to the central coast, there’s a sense of no worrying or the need to feel you have to be busy all of the time,” he says. “And Dolphin Bay makes sure that sense of relaxation and being at peace is continuously kept.”
The hotel opened February 15 and has since been “the” destination of choice for many locals and residents throughout the central valley. In fact, McPherson says some of their repeat customers come from Bakersfield.

First Impressions
Upon walking into the hotel’s lobby, elegant modern art décor is the first thing to capture your eye. The next would be the undeniable smiles of the hotel’s staff, eagerly awaiting your check-in.
“A lifestyle,” McPherson says. “I think that’s the simplest way to describe the unique property we have here.”
Guests visiting the Dolphin Bay are treated to a stay of undivided attention in a world of modern luxury. Whether you’re a family on vacation or a couple embarking on a romantic getaway, Dolphin Bay is at your service to ensure your stay is memorable and worry free.
“Whether our guests need to use our Denali to go into San Luis for the day or would like the restaurant to pack them a lunch for a day at the beach, we are here to make your every request a reality,” McPherson says.
In keeping true to their lifestyle motto, prior to your arrival, Dolphin Bay will send you an e-mail confirmation and a request form for groceries that you would want during your stay, if you would like. However, keep in mind the hotel requires at least 48 hours notice of your grocery needs to make sure you have everything during your stay.
“Sometimes people need a vacation from their vacation,” McPherson says. “While you are out sightseeing, shopping, golfing or just enjoying the beach, you can rest assured we’ll take care of you when you are at the hotel.”
Nightly reservations begin at $405 a night for a single room suite (960 square feet) or $505 a night for a two-room suite (approximately 1700 square feet). But the fun doesn’t stop there. The hotel also offers a $1200 a night, two-bedroom penthouse (2,200 square feet). Regardless of the room your stay encompasses, your jaw will drop as you walk into any of the rooms. Marble floors, granite counter tops, couches and plasma screen televisions make the Dolphin Bay perfect beyond belief.

“While many vacationers try to acclimate to their surroundings when they are on vacation, we make it easier for them,” McPherson says. “When you’re here, you’re home.”

The Spa
But at home, how often are you treated to a massage?
Lavender filters through the air as simple melodies move across the open lobby of the La Bonne Vie Spa at Dolphin Bay. All of the masseuses are well trained and have the magic touch, so you can be certain you’ll be in good hands.
Their hands will move your body back and forth as you would imagine the tide coming in against the coastline’s rocks. The light is dim, so as you lie face down on the massage table you can see the perfectly symmetrical bowl of sand and seashells. Total Zen. Lavender still floats through the air instilling a sense of natural repose as the masseuse’s hands and fingers work their magic.
The hour will seem to go by with a blink of an eye, and the tight ball of stress nestled in the small of your back will become nothing more than a painful distant memory.
Highly recommended by guests is the spa’s Effectual massage. This choice will grant you the experience of aromatherapy added to the classic Swedish technique to relax both body and mind. Also an inviting choice is Excel, the spa’s therapeutic deep tissue sport massage. Both are $110 for 60 minutes and $140 for 90 minutes. Extraordinary is a relaxing mix of warm basalt stones drizzled with oil to melt tension and invoke deep relaxation ($150 for 90 minutes).
The pampering doesn’t stop there.
La Bonne Vie offers a multitude of self-preservation and relaxation options such as the in style facial rejuvenation and cellulite reduction services. And we can’t forget the popular pedicures, manicures, and numerous face treatments.

  The Restaurant
Ready to serve three meals a day, The Dolphin Bay’s signature fine dining restaurant, Lido, will cast a spell on you.
Lido’s magic is in the food. Its spellbinding charm is in the atmosphere and first class staff.
Whether you dine inside the restaurant or outside on the patio overlooking the majestic Pacific Ocean, your experience at Lido will be no less than having a red carpet rolled out for you.
Under the creative-culinary mind of Chef Evan Treadwell, Lido serves meals throughout the day, seven days a week. The notion of appetizer versus entrée has disappeared: all selections are available in two sizes, allowing guests to create their own tastings or stick with traditional courses. The restaurant’s wine list is also exciting. It is full of local winery gems, creating a Central Coast dining experience found nowhere else along the shoreline. Highly recommended is the Maple Brined Pork Chop served with fresh green beans, corn relish and a deliciously grilled white pear. In addition, if that’s not enough, which we hope it’s not, you must try the Mocha Cheesecake – it’s simply heaven on a pristine white plate.  This Fall, Lido will be releasing new menu items. One of these divine items will be a seasonal Carrot Cake Bread Pudding; a specialty hotel staff says is superb.
Whether your stay is for a night or for a week, any moment spent at The Dolphin Bay is priceless.
