If you are like most of us you have to work during the week. So you can always send your letters to the Board Of Supervisors at board@co.kern.ca.usKern County Animal Control wants to stop you from owning 11 or more cats or dogs without a permit. This annual fee and permit will cost you about a hundred dollars, in addition to your cat or dog licenses. If you breed or you have a rescue group, you might have a big problem with the zoning department and you won't qualify for the facility permit. The ordinance also mentions applying and receiving a conditional use permit. A conditional use permit will run you around $2,000 and up (some say $8 to $9,000). A copy of the very vaguely written 16 pages of proposed laws are at http://www.co.kern.ca.us/acd under "new ordinance". A fee schedule for the increase in fees is also there as well. Read it for yourself, if you can understand the words. It's a very confusing ordinance and if it gets passed, it could be used to quiet anyone who challenges this agency's power, and not fairly applied. In this ordinance, the director has a lot of power and many situations will be "at the discretion of the director or his designee." Tell your friends and come to one of the workshops to voice your opinion. Then come to the November 10 Board of Supervisors meeting in Bakersfield at 2 p.m. to voice your opinion. These workshops will be held next week and the week after throughout the county. http://www.co.kern.ca.us/acd Notice of Public Workshop The Kern County Animal Control Department will host several public workshops and invites the public to comment on proposed revisions to the Kern County Ordinance Code relating to Animal Control Regulations.
